The FN 509 Midsize Tactical is a 9mm striker-fired pistol with a 4.5-inch stainless barrel threaded 1/2x28 and a 15+1 capacity. It ships with a 24+1 extended magazine, a case, a locking device and an owner's manual. The Low-Profile Optics-Mounting System takes a red dot sight, three-dot night sights come standard, and the controls are fully ambidextrous.

This pistol suits a shooter who wants a red dot-ready 9mm for defensive use and high-round-count training. The 24+1 magazine serves the training side, while the 15+1 magazine is the standard capacity. The federal steps for buying are the same in every state: a licensed dealer, Form 4473, a background check and a minimum age of 21. A third of states add rules on permits, waits or capacity.
