Since September 1, 2021, the Firearm Carry Act allows adults 21 and older who can lawfully own a firearm to carry a handgun in Texas without a license, either concealed or in a belt or shoulder holster. This right is barred if convicted of assault, deadly conduct, terroristic threat, or certain disorderly conduct offenses in the past five years. The Texas Department of Public Safety issues the License to Carry statewide, costing $40, valid for five years, and requires four to six hours of classroom instruction plus a range qualification with a certified instructor.

Dallas County falls in the North Zone, where archery season runs from October 3 to November 6, 2026, the general season from November 7, 2026, to January 3, 2027, and the muzzleloader and special late seasons from January 4 to 17, 2027.
